PECL strives to improve local air quality
The TPC Taichung Power Plant (10 nos. coal-fired units) consumes a significant amount of coal. Currently, the coal is piled in an outdoor coal yard inside a 23 meters high, dust-proof grid fence to prevent blowing of coal dust. The existing coal handling system is not equipped with the required blending function to meet the current environmental air pollution emission control regulations.
With PECL's technical guidance, TPC is upgrading the coal handling system with automatic coal handling equipment (with trippers & reclaimers) and is building sheds to store the coal indoors which will improve the overall air quality.
