Formosa Sunshine Project – Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant

PECL's expertise in US-Taiwan partnership

Located about an hour's drive away from New Orleans and near the Sunshine bridge, Formosa's mega USD9.4 billion petrochemical project (dubbed as The Sunshine Project) will be producing polyethylene, polypropylene, polymers, and ethylene glycol that are vital and used in everyday products including car casings, plastic bottles, grocery bags, drainage pipes, ropes, artificial turf, polyester clothing, playground equipment and much more. Bechtel, PECL's parent company, has performed and executed three (3) FEEDs – Ethylene Cracker Unit, Propane Dehydrogenation Unit, and the Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant (partnered with PECL).

The Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant (CWTP) covers approximately 23 acres which includes two water treatment biological treatment trains for Phase 1, encompassing 11 tanks with the largest being tank having a volume of around 50,000m3. The CWTP Plant will be receiving all the process wastewater from the other process units and treating it to meet discharge standards before releasing the water into the Mississippi River. A Phase 2 for the project is also planned within a couple of years after the completion of Phase 1.

PECL is proud to have performed and executed the FEED for the CWTP with Bechtel – a FEED that normally would take 12 months but was accomplished in less than 8 months, a remarkable accomplishment for a satisfied customer.
