As part of Plastic Free July, PECL hosted the Beach Cleanup at Fulong Beach to raise awareness of the impacts that plastic waste can have on the environment while helping to clean up the beach and ocean for a safer, nicer, pollution-free environment for the community and tourists at Fulong to enjoy whilst preserving the natural habitat of marine wildlife.

This year’s beach cleanup saw more than 170 PECL/Bechtel employees and family members coming together on a sunny Saturday 1st of July morning to assist in volunteer efforts as part of the movement to reduce waste and support behavioral changes such as promoting recycling efforts towards achieving the goal of having beautiful communities and cleaner oceans. Despite the sweltering heat, after a little over an hour of cleaning, our employees and their family members had already collected bag after bag of plastic waste and rubbish.

This beach cleanup is not only an opportunity for family members to bond but also the chance to increase the awareness about the impacts that plastic waste has on our environment, in particular, our oceans. Through this cleanup, we hope that this can also promote and encourage waste reduction and recycling at the consumer level thereby increasing the chances of reducing the amount of waste reaching our oceans and pollution the environment.

We are proud that PECL/Bechtel employees and family members had this opportunity to interact with and give back to the local community and work together towards preserving our oceans for generations to come.
