Our Response to COVID-19

As the world responds to the immediate and longer-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, PECL is focused on doing our part to care for the well-being of our colleagues, their families, and those partners and supply chain subcontractors whom we work alongside. We fully support the Taiwan government and appreciate its efforts in managing COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic, PECL has continued to provide for our customers while strictly adhering to health and safety best practices. More importantly, the PECL management team and our parent company Bechtel are working together to make sure we keep our people and our communities safe through our actions.

The PECL COVID-19 Advisory Committee (PCAC), made up of a cross section of company leaders, continue to interface with public health officials to implement appropriate measures. Following guidance from the Taiwan Central Epidemic Command Center and Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, PCAC has developed a set of best practices to create and maintain safe workplaces across the company's offices and work sites:

Our Preparedness Plan

Workplace Safety

  • Issued self-assessment questions for colleagues to evaluate suitability for office working.
  • Implemented daily temperature checks at office/field site entrances; request colleagues with temperatures over 37.0º to return home.
  • Enhance the office IT capability and develop procedures to allow employees to work remotely if required.
  • Increase overall environmental cleaning of offices, desks, phones, door-knobs and other areas with multiple users.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Provide disinfectant wipes at desks and in common areas. Provide each colleague with a personal hand sanitizer bottle to disinfect hands frequently. Furnish masks in office and workplaces.
  • Request employees practice safe social distancing when possible, and require mask wearing when in elevators and other close quarters when social distancing is not practical.
  • Limit business travel and full endorsement of the government's policy of mandatory quarantine for all in-bound international travelers.
  • Limit attendance at internal and external meetings to those that are essential, and maintain social-distancing and/or mask wearing.
  • Increase awareness of hygiene protocols (hand washing, social distancing, etc.) through posters and publicly visible signage.
  • Require all in-person visitors to submit to a temperature check and to fill out the Novel Coronavirus Health Declaration Card.
  • Require all in-person visitors to meet with PECL only in designated conference rooms.
  • Encourage employees exhibiting symptoms to follow CECC & Taiwan CDC guidance and self-quarantine.

Other Measures We've Taken

  • Provide team members with regular updates with the latest information on COVID-19 and any changes in protocol required.
  • Conduct surveys when necessary to identify employees who have had contact with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases or with recent travel history to affected or high-risk regions.
  • Developed a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to ensure operations can continue uninterrupted.
  • Hired more cleaning staff to ensure regular and frequent sanitation of PECL premises.
